Threats to Data

Introduction

By the very nature of a transactional web-site it has to hold and process a large amount of data, some of which is extremely sensitive. As well as names and addresses a customer is supplying information so that the company is able to extract money from their bank account. In these days of identity theft the customer needs to know that this information is safe otherwise they will not use the web site. Information, these days, is a valuable commodity and there are opportunities to make money out of it both legally and illegally. Threats can come from both from within and outside the organisation. This section is about the threats that there are around and how it is protected both by the law and other means.
