1.7 On-screen publications
You must recognise and use standard layouts for common screen-based publications, including slide presentations, information points and websites. You will use storyboarding to design the layout of pages/slides in these publications.
You will learn how to create and link web pages/slides using hypertext structures with appropriate navigation routes.
In addition to the generic features listed in Section 1.5 you will also need to consider features of on-screen publications, including:
frames
backgrounds
hyperlinks
transitions.
You will learn the importance of thorough testing, including:
proofreading content
checking layout
checking all links and pathways
checking suitability for different browsers and user systems.
Screen-based publications can be extremely compelling and persuasive, but, all too often, they are just ‘gimmicky' and uninformative. You must learn to avoid simply using technology for technology's sake.
You should always keep in mind the purpose of the document you are producing and only use ICT tools and techniques if they help you to achieve this objective.
