On-screen publications

How do I get good marks for on-screen publications?

  • Don't be tempted to use every whizzy feature of the software.
  • Make sure all your titles are in the same font style and size.
  • Use the same background for all of the slides/pages.
  • Use the same layouts where possible.
  • Avoid using too many different fonts and colours.
  • Make sure the graphics you use are suitable for the content.
  • Don't use images that have nothing to do with the subject.
  • Use wordart and clipart sparingly.
  • Don't clutter your slides/pages with too many images.
  • Resize your graphics ensuring that they stay in proportion. Don't stretch or blur your images!
  • If you are importing objects into slides/pages, check that:

    - the object you are copying is your final correct version

    - you highlight all the necessary information when you select the object to copy it

    - you position the object in a sensible place.

  • Use space effectively.
  • Check that your navigation route and any links work as you planned.
  • Make sure the style is suitable for the target audience.
  • Check your publications for accuracy - spell check AND proofread!
  • Ask others for their opinions and modify your publications where necessary.
  • Acknowledge copyright.
  • Make use of your plan.

How do I get good marks for paper-based publications?

  • For each document, include all the standard components
  • Use a suitable structure and style for the type of document
  • Avoid clipart and wordart in formal documents and always use them with care in other publications
  • Be consistent
  • Avoid the temptation to use too many different fonts
  • Produce the document or product requested
  • Make sure the style of presentation is suitable for the target audience
  • Check your publications for accuracy - spell check AND proofread!
  • Ask others for their opinions and modify your publications where necessary
