  Community Action for Energy

What do you need to know? – gathering information

You will need to find suitable, reliable sources and then select and store relevant information for use in later tasks.

You must find out about:

task issues relating to the use of fossil fuels to meet our energy needs

task alternative energy sources we could use to meet some of our energy needs

task ways of reducing energy consumption in daily life

what we use energy for diagram

task action already being taken locally

You must use a range of secondary resources, both ICT and paper-based. There are many websites that explore these topics. Interviews with experts are very useful. You can listen to this interview with a councillor from Rushmoor Borough or read this transcript.

Newspapers and magazines provide both factual information and opinions. For example, the Guardian newspaper reported on a man called Allan Jones who has used alternative sources of energy to revolutionise power in Woking. The newspaper article prompted one reader to write a letter to the editor.

You may find it useful to use other resources such as books, maps, images, and TV/radio broadcasts.
